Will the 'Station Rumble Soon?
editorial | 09/17/07 | Chris Martin
This article came by way of Shacknews, but originated from Pro-G who reported (citing some insider info) that Sony is likely to announce at TGS a new Dual Shock (we are only on #2, at this point) in an effort to cover their bloodied SIXAXIS tracks right into your living room. The rumored \"update\" looks an attempt to curb the potty mouths of internet users and Sony bashers everywhere, and comes hot off negotiations with rumble manufacturers (and patent holders) Immersion. And it\'s about damn time, since the PlayStation pioneered rumble anyway. Now that rumble is being reconsidered in the PS3, is it enough? Will it be enough? We give our two cents.

A Handful of Ghost Squad Screens for the Wii
game: Ghost Squad
gallery | 09/08/07 | Chris Martin
Once the reveared developers of Shenmue, Virtua Fighter, Afterburner, Space Harrier (the list goes on) are hard at work bringing their \"light gun shooter\" Ghost Squad to the Nintendo Wii. Which means it\'s a \"Wii gun shooter\" or a \"light Wii shooter\" or a \"Wiimote shooter.\" Whatever you call it, it\'s very much in Wii vein with 4-player co-op. Sure, the game has been out in arcades since 2004, but better late than never, I always say.

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Gleemax *But Were Afraid to Ask
game: Gleemax
editorial | 09/06/07 | Chris Martin
We went in expecting Magic the Gathering Online Version 3, but what we got was much, much bigger than we anticipated. PAX 07 was great for a number of reasons - concerts, contests, Family Feud - but Wizards of the Coast\'s ace in the hole Gleemax took us aback, slapped us around, and handed to us the most complete vision of an online gaming community we\'ve ever seen. Complete with indie game developer support, event hosting, and cross-game currency and trading. Don\'t know about Gleemax? You should, and here\'s why...

Fatal Inertia Preview
game: Fatal Inertia
preview | 08/02/07 | Chris Martin
The Fatal Inertia Demo arrived on Xbox Live the other day and now we have an idea of what Koei has been up to. While not a direct descendent of WipEout, it takes some key ingredients - namely the hovering cars and the weapons, which can be acquired by passing over pods of colored light on the racetrack. Racetrack, however, is used lightly, as you speed through canyons, not between buildings in this high-velocity sci-fi racer.

Review of Sandio's 3D Game O' Mouse
review | 06/04/07 | Jamie Gergen
While Sandio Technologies promises to revolutionize the way your mouse and game operate together, the learning curve is steep and difficult to overcome. Instead of improving your gaming experience and making you a better player, the 3D Gaming \'O Mouse will instead become an obstacle to overcome, as often as not. While the design works well for RTS camera controls, it falls apart when you move to faster paced titles like First Person Shooters. The inclusion of analog controls on the mouse may very well be a good idea, but not in this iteration, and after some time with the new mouse we simply can\'t recommend it at the $79 price tag.

World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Review
game: World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade
review | 02/14/07 | Amanda Bateman
We probably don\'t even have to publish this review, because World of Warcraft is a game that carries its own legion of fans. The ever-popular World of Warcraft\'s first expansion, The Burning Crusade, is here, and WoW players will absorb it into the fold simply because it\'s more of what they already love: World of Warcraft. If you managed to pry yourself from the game, then don\'t get the expansion...because you might find it hard to walk away again. The powers that be have opened new doors to adventure, and it\'s hard to turn your back on that a second time.

Gothic 3 Review
game: Gothic 3
review | 02/03/07 | Sean Hilliard
The Gothic series has been a cult fave for quite awhile, rivaling that RPG juggernaut, The Elder Scrolls, for the hearts and minds of hardcore PC gamers. The latest, Gothic 3, has drawn a lot of (mostly unfavorable) comparison to Oblivion, but our man Sean Hilliard thinks there is another popular game that Gothic 3 draws from: World of Warcraft. Check out Sean\'s review of one of the most derided cult favorites of 2007.

Super Swing Golf Review
game: Super Swing Golf
review | 01/31/07 | George Holomshek
The golf featured in Wii Sports introduced a lot of casual gamers to a virtual sport many of them would never have touched on their own. Yet Wii Sports Golf is hardly a complete game, and has only one full course. Tecmo has stepped forward to offer Super Swing Golf, a more complete golf title that combines an odd mix of more challenging golf elements and overly-stylized presentation. Without online play, Super Swing may be missing a key element, but with a dozen courses and more golf features it serves as competent follow-up to what Nintendo started back when the Wii launched.

Magic the Gathering Online Gets Facial
game: Magic the Gathering Online
preview | 01/23/07 | Chris Martin
Magic the Gathering is now a classic card game. It\'s reached such long-term profundity for many an adolescent and twenty (or thirty) something since it\'s inception in 1993 that it might be the most dynamic single game of all time. It certainly has one of the most hardcore fan bases of all time. We\'ve taken a look at the new layout of Magic Online and we\'ve got impressions. Good ones. All that and a colossus, inside.

1Up.com and Sony Both Wrong: Neither Sixaxis nor Wiimote Win Emmy Award
news | 01/10/07 | Aaron Stanton
Inaccurate stories are often hard to kill after they\'ve seen some publicity. When Sony sent out a press release on January 8th claiming that the Sixaxis controller had won an Emmy for technical innovation, many people were understandably upset. Why had the Sixaxis won and not the Nintendo Wii? Then, 1UP.com reported that the Wiimote had also won an Emmy. In truth, neither won. Both Sony and Nintendo did win awards, but both won for past contributions, not for the Wii or the PS3. Nintendo won for the D-Pad. Sony won for the Dual Shock.

PS3 Backwards Compatibility Makes PS2 Games Look Terrible
game: Playstation 3
editorial | 12/14/06 | Aaron Stanton
The PS3 has not had an easy launch. While the mainstream media has been treating the system very MTV-like (with unquestioning adoration), Sony\'s street credit amongst the hardcore has been taking almost daily blows. From problems with HDTV support to shortages at launch, Sony just hasn\'t been getting the positive consumer response they probably wanted. Now, Joystiq.com is reporting on a YouTube video that highlights just how bad PS2 games look when run on the PS3\'s backwards compatibility. The side-by-side comparison video between a PS2 game running on the PS3 vs. an actual PS2 is really fairly stunning. The PS2 beats the PS3 hands down, and does so clearly enough that you don\'t have to be picky to notice the difference. Check out the article for more information.

Return of a Legend - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Review
game: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
review | 12/09/06 | George Holomshek
The Wii has burst onto the scene this Fall every bit as popular as some imagined. Its success is due, in part, to a single title that many Nintendo fans have been eager to play: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess has been re-tooled from its Gamecube origins for the Wii\'s unique controller and brawnier hardware. The result is a launch title of virtually unparalleled quality. Is Twilight Princess all that we hoped it would be? Our man George is mighty impressed. Check out his review for the details.

Bomberman: Act Zero Review
game: Bomberman: Act Zero
review | 12/07/06 | Sean Hilliard
We sent our resident cheeky strategy freak Sean to get the story on Bomberman: Act Zero. After the fiasco that was F.E.A.R. Extraction Point we thought that everyone\'s favorite neighborhood explosives expert would be a nice change of pace. Boy, were we wrong! Not only has the new Bomberman been stripped of his best classic gameplay, it\'s been replaced by a semi-FPS element that simply makes it hard to see. Add in 99 uninspired levels and no ability to save, and you\'ll soon mourn Bomberman of old. Check out Sean\'s write-up to see why.
